The Middlebury Community School Corporation
- "The mission of the Middlebury Community Schools is to provide challenging educational experiences to develop happy, productive, responsible citizens."
Our Setting
- Our corporation serves three townships in northeastern Elkhart County, Indiana, covering 100 square miles in a beautiful, semi-rural environment. The landscape ranges from hilly to gently rolling to flat plains, including woods, rivers, and a couple of small lakes. Quality housing developments and a thriving manufacturing economy have been major factors in the steady growth of the Middlebury corporation in the past decades.
- Named for the only town in the area we serve, our corporation thrives in a progressive, yet conservative environment. The influence of the large Amish and Mennonite settlement in the area makes us attractive to those seeking to raise a family in a place where traditional values and a sense of community remain very strong. Even though our small community is out of the fast track, it is still conveniently close to major highways, railways, and airports, where residents can have access to nearby urban centers of culture, entertainment, and higher education.
- The system consists of six schools. There are four elementary schools, a middle school serving grades 6, 7, and 8, and a high school serving grades 9 through 12.
Our Structure
- The corporation is governed by a five-member appointed school board which takes responsibility for educating all students in the district who are capable of learning, regardless of their abilities, race, color, national origin, creed, or handicap.
Our Most Important Educational Task
- The Middlebury School Board believes that the most important educational task is that of working toward the maximum intellectual and affective development of students in an atmosphere that recognizes the uniqueness of the individual, and provides nurture and humane treatment.
